Horton Falls National Park VKFF-594
Travelled up to Horton Falls National Park for the weekend. The falls were thundering after recent rain and the countryside looking a little better. The park is only 40km from home, so not a long trip. Arrived a bit after lunch on Saturday and set up camp after taking a few photos.
Threw up a quarter wave end fed sloper for 40 meters, the scrub to close in to get a Dipole up. Started calling CQ at 0600 UTC, logged a few calls. the band started to open up and with the international contest on it was difficult to make local contacts. Got 8 in the log and decided to call it quits, put the billy on and cooked some dinner. Crawled into the swag around 10pm.
Was up before first light, turned on the transceiver and worked a couple of the VK4 Early Bird Group up around Rockhampton, had some brekkie, followed by a few more photographs of the river near camp.
Got a few more in the log for a total of 19, the band not seeing a great deal of activity, I packed up at lunchtime and headed home. Nice relaxing weekend. I visit this park quite often, so hope to give out some more numbers from there in the future.
