Weekly Photo Challenge: Abandoned
Trial bay Jail, South West Rocks, Australia. Construction on the Jail began around 1877, and it was used to house convicts working on the building of a breakwater and wharf nearby. Closed a short time later in 1903, as it was too expensive to run. The jail was used again in 1915 to hold German wartime internees, but has since been left to the elements. A beautiful parkland and camping area now surrounds the building and it is sometimes used for Rock concerts. The place has an eerie feeling, the abandoned souls of those that died during its construction still seem to linger…..
